What Happens When You Call Inta-Lock

Being locked out of your home is stressful — especially at night, in bad weather or with children involved. Inta-Lock provides fast, professional emergency locksmith cover across Oakham, Uppingham, Stamford, Melton Mowbray, Leicester, Corby and 35 locations across Rutland and the East Midlands, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

When you call, Matt East answers personally. There are no call centres, no automated menus and no subcontractors. You speak directly with your locksmith, get a clear upfront quote and Matt comes to you.

Our first approach is always non-destructive entry — using specialist tools and techniques to open your door without damaging the lock, the frame or the door itself. In the vast majority of cases your existing lock is retained and you are left with a fully working door. We only drill as a last resort when no other method is possible, and we always advise you in advance if that is the case.

Inta-Lock has been trusted by Leicestershire Police and Northamptonshire Police for emergency access work since 2012 — including welfare checks and property lockouts where sensitive, non-destructive entry is required.

Emergency Lockout Scenarios We Resolve

Every situation is different. Here are the most common emergency lockout scenarios we deal with across Rutland and the East Midlands.

Locked out — key inside
Left your keys inside and the door locked behind you. The most common lockout. Usually resolved non-destructively in minutes.
Key snapped in the lock
Broken key stuck inside the barrel. We extract the key and assess whether the cylinder can be retained or needs replacing on the same visit.
uPVC door won't open
Door locked but key won't turn, or mechanism has jammed. Often a uPVC mechanism fault rather than a lock problem — repaired on site.
Faulty or seized lock
Lock has become stiff, difficult to operate or has seized entirely. We assess on site and replace only if necessary — often a service or cylinder replacement solves it.
Post-burglary emergency
Lock or door damaged in a break-in and needs securing immediately. We carry replacement cylinders and can make your property secure on the same callout. See also: Locks Changed.
Welfare & bereavement access
Need access to a property following bereavement or a welfare concern. Inta-Lock handles these with discretion and urgency. Trusted by Leicestershire and Northamptonshire Police for exactly this type of work.
Our approach

Non-Destructive Entry — What It Means

Non-destructive entry means opening a locked door using specialist tools and techniques rather than drilling or breaking the lock. This is always Inta-Lock's first approach — for uPVC, composite and timber doors.

The goal is to leave your door, lock and frame completely undamaged. In most cases the existing cylinder is retained, you keep the same keys and nothing needs replacing. We only move to destructive entry (drilling) when a lock is genuinely unpickable and no other option exists — and we always tell you in advance.

Why it matters: Forcing entry yourself risks damaging the door frame, misaligning the mechanism, or breaking the cylinder in a way that makes professional entry harder. It also risks injury. If you are locked out, the safest and most cost-effective option is always to call a qualified locksmith first.

Works on uPVC, composite and timber doors
Door and lock left undamaged in most cases
You keep your existing keys
Faster than drilling in the majority of situations
Drilling only used as an absolute last resort
Method Comparison
Door damageNone (NDE)
Lock retainedUsually yes
Keys still workYes
Frame damageNone
Works on anti-snap cylindersYes
Additional cost vs drillingNo — often less
Tip: Do not attempt to force entry yourself. This often causes frame damage that makes professional entry harder and more expensive. Call Inta-Lock first — non-destructive entry is almost always faster and cheaper than DIY.

What to do when locked out

Locked Out? Here's What to Do

If you find yourself locked out of your home, the most important thing is to stay calm. The vast majority of lockouts are resolved quickly and without any damage to your property.

Do not attempt to force entry yourself. Trying to kick in a door, prise open a window or manipulate the lock without specialist tools almost always causes more damage than a professional locksmith would. It can damage the door frame, misalign the mechanism and in some cases make professional entry harder and more expensive.

If you are locked out at night or in an unsafe situation, contact Leicestershire Police or Northamptonshire Police if you have immediate safety concerns. For all other lockouts, call Inta-Lock on 01572 503203.

The NNAL (National Network of Approved Locksmiths) and Citizens Advice both recommend using a vetted, insured locksmith rather than any locksmith found through a general search. Always check for DBS certification and membership of a recognised trade body before letting anyone into your home.

DO'S & DON'TS WHEN LOCKED OUT
Stay calm — most lockouts are resolved quickly and without damage
Call a DBS checked, insured locksmith — verify credentials before they start work
Get an upfront quote before any work begins — a legitimate locksmith will always provide one
Check if a window is open — if you can get in safely without causing damage, do so
Do not force the door — frame and mechanism damage is expensive and makes entry harder
Do not use a credit card — this rarely works on modern locks and can damage the door seal
Do not use any locksmith without checking credentials — rogue locksmiths are a known problem. See nnal.org.uk
Do not pay cash upfront to any locksmith without getting a receipt and a quote first
FAQ

Emergency Locksmith FAQs

How quickly can you reach me for an emergency lockout in Oakham?

Oakham is our base — for emergency callouts in the town and immediate surrounding area we aim to arrive as quickly as possible, often within the hour. Call 01572 503203 for an exact ETA based on your location and current conditions.

Will you damage my door to get me in?

No — non-destructive entry is always the first approach. We use specialist tools to open your door without damaging the lock or frame. In the vast majority of cases the door is left undamaged and the existing lock is retained. We only drill as a last resort and always tell you in advance if that is necessary.

I've locked my keys inside — is that different from losing my keys?

Yes. If your keys are inside your home, we can usually open the door non-destructively and your existing lock remains usable — no replacement needed in most cases. If your keys are lost or stolen, a lock change is recommended to ensure the lost keys cannot be used to access your home.

Do you carry replacement locks and cylinders on the van?

Yes. We carry a full range of euro cylinders on the van including Avocet ABS anti-snap and ASSA ABLOY options. If a cylinder replacement is needed, we can usually fit one on the same visit without any delay.

How do I know you are a legitimate locksmith?

Inta-Lock holds a current Enhanced DBS certificate (available to view on arrival), is a registered member of the NNAL (National Network of Approved Locksmiths), holds an NCFE qualification in locksmithing and is fully insured. We have 57+ verified five-star Google reviews and are trusted by Leicestershire Police and Northamptonshire Police for emergency access work.

We give a clear upfront quote before any work begins. If a locksmith refuses to give you a quote before starting, do not use them. See: About Inta-LockFull FAQ page

Are you available on Christmas Day and bank holidays?

Yes. Inta-Lock is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year including Christmas Day, New Year's Day and all bank holidays. Emergencies do not follow business hours and neither do we.

What areas do you cover for emergency lockouts?

We cover 35 locations across Rutland, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire. See the full list on our areas we cover page. If your location is not listed, call anyway — we may still be able to reach you depending on job type and timing.
